Top Tips for Self Help for Panic Attacks

Top Tips for Self Help for Panic Attacks Panic attacks can strike at anytime. It’s therefore crucial that you learn some self help tips that will help you control the situation. Indeed, these self help tips can assist you in curing panic attacks without the use of medication.

Self help tip #1

Understand your fear.  The very first thing you need to do is to understand what the triggers are that are causing your fears.  True fear is only present whenever there’s something to be afraid of.  When there really is no presence of anything actually threatening, there’s no “true fear”, and the panic sensations you’re experiencing is really just your wrong response.

What are triggers?

The triggers can be anything from long term exposure to stress or a traumatic experience that happened in the past.  Identifying YOUR triggers is the first step in understanding and coping with panic attacks.

Self help tip #2

Stating your dominance – Anxiety problems cause the attack sensations.  Since they are essentially response malfunctions, they’ll come and go.  The good news is that they’re totally harmless.  Your body does have a system that recovers any injuries or malfunctions.  They are the “blueprints” that protect you from real danger.  That is why wounds are healed and, in this case, why the attack sensations will go away.

The very next time you feel a panic attack coming, you shouldn’t run away.  Remember:  they’re a response malfunction, and they will eventually go away.  They are harmless.  Now, dominate the attacks and don’t let them control you or your thoughts.  Instead, you need to know how to control panic attacks.  Tell yourself that they are going to come in the next twenty seconds, and that you will be ready for them.

If it doesn’t come in the next twenty seconds, then move on and forget about it. If it does, allow the attack to come for twenty seconds, accept it, and then move on. Don’t try to fight it.

What you’re doing is countering your fear towards the panic attacks.  Once you truly understand the sensations and why they’re occurring, you’ll no longer fear them, and will thus move away from anxiety panic attacks symptoms.

Self help tip #3

Clear all your thoughts.  The best way to stop the attack quickly is to not think about it!  Worrying will not just keep your mind filled up with stress, but also set precedence for the development of an anxiety or panic disorder.

It’s extremely important indeed that you think happy, positive thoughts and keep your mind worry and stress free.  This is easier to do when you understand that the triggers of your anxiety are harmless and non-existent and that they are just passers of fear.

Rather than preoccupy your mind with worrisome thoughts, think about all the good things in life.  Thinking about the things in life that you are thankful for is the best type of self help for panic attacks.  You need to appreciate everything good in your life so that you can build a happy, stress free mind!  A great way to learn about panic attacks and how to deal with them is by reading books by Dr. Joe Barry.
