Although you can’t cause yourself to have a panic attack on purpose, you can allow it to have power over you whenever it does happen. Just as you decide to have a panic attack and can’t, you can decide not to have a panic attack and can. It sounds confusing doesn’t it? After all, isn’t preventing panic attacks out of your control?   

You may have always been told that the anxious sensations that come from panic attacks are usually beyond your ability to control, either physically or mentally.  This misconception only adds to the overall fear factor associated with panic attacks.  You may tell yourself that they just happen and that you can’t do anything about it. 

 

With this attitude, it’s no wonder why so many anxiety sufferers just become depressed and give up!  It seems hopeless when it’s framed in a way that makes it seem as if there’s no hope for overcoming panic attacks.  This belief has been encouraged by many people and groups who don’t have it in them to blame the sufferer for the problem.  However, we must lay blame where it blames.  It’s your fault that you get panic attacks.

Instead of finding this statement incendiary, you should find it empowering.  You know why?  If you’re the one causing your panic attacks, then you can be the one to stop them!  Panic attacks, while disturbing, shouldn’t take up too much of your mind.  Panic attacks really are survivable and controllable! 

 

If you decide after having a panic attack that it doesn’t cause any lasting harm to your body, then you will find that controlling it in the future might not be so difficult.  Indeed, the symptoms brought on by panic attacks, such as headaches and nausea, will not be permanent.  Realize this and you’ll know how to stop panic attacks. 

 

Since they won’t kill you or leave lasting physical scars, you can overcome the anxiety surrounding panic attacks.  This of course is easier said than done, but changing your attitude toward panic attacks will lessen the nervous anticipation that precedes them.  You can control the mental anxiety by controlling your physical sensations.  This can be done by learning breathing exercises and muscle relaxation techniques. 

Controlling the physical symptoms is the first step in curing panic attacks for good.  You need to stop the anxious feelings, eliminate the fear, and end the panic.  This all can be done, by you alone, and without medication.  There’s no reason why you should allow your life to be disrupted any longer.  Don’t allow panic attacks, stress, or anxiety disrupt your life anymore.  Live your life as you were meant to live it by learning how to stop panic attacks. 

 

You need to realize that the feelings aren’t something that you should fear, but embrace. You need to understand that you have total control and power over your panic attacks and anxiety. Once you do understand this, you’ll be released from its on control and will in return control it.
